Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Food is an integral component of community events, contributing not only to the cultural experience but also significantly affecting attendee satisfaction. In Jos North Local Government Area, community events such as festivals, fairs, and public gatherings often rely on food vendors to provide refreshments and meals to attendees. These vendors play a crucial role in enhancing the overall event experience by offering a diverse range of local and international cuisines. However, the quality, pricing, hygiene, and variety of food offered can have a substantial impact on attendees' perceptions of the event (Nwankwo et al., 2023). Poor food services can result in dissatisfaction and negative reviews, while exceptional services can elevate the reputation of the event. As community events in Jos North grow in scale and diversity, understanding the role and impact of food vendors on attendee satisfaction has become increasingly important.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the central role of food vendors in community events, issues such as inconsistent food quality, high prices, long waiting times, and poor hygiene often lead to attendee complaints. These problems negatively impact the overall satisfaction of participants and can tarnish the reputation of the event. Additionally, limited research exists on the specific contribution of food vendors to the success of community events in Jos North LGA, leaving event organizers without a clear understanding of how to optimize food services. This study seeks to fill this gap by assessing the impact of food vendors on attendee satisfaction, with the aim of providing actionable insights for event planners.
